Giving Back – The Why?

Context:

If you are reading this, it means that you have an internet connection. Which in itself is a privilege! According to the surveys, only a small percentage of population today have access to decent internet and you are one of them.

We are privileged to have what we have today and there are millions of others who do not have what we have. Giving back is one way to help the ones who are less privileged than you are. After all, who are we without the community around us?

There are few ways to give back to the society. You can do that by putting in your sweat and blood. Or you can do that by donating money. If you are the first kind, it’s the best thing! Just keep doing the amazing things you do and continue to inspire others. If you are of the second kind, where you want to donate and give back to the community, there are two ways you can do that –

1. One is to donate to organizations that directly cater to citizens. Like NGOs that donate books to schools, or serve meals or provide shelter and so on.
2. The other is to donate to organizations that empower citizens to fulfill their duties and stand up for their rights.

While the first kind of organizations are critical to serve the immediate needs of the world, I personally believe that the second type of organizations are very crucial for a long term impact and sustainability. We, The People (WTP) is one such organization that works with citizens to empower them to work with the government and other authorities to get what is rightfully theirs. Over the last 10 years, the organization helped school children get sports equipment, boundary walls, drinking water and so on from the government using their rights as per the RTE. WTP also helped villagers get electricity to their streets and roads repaired in their communities.

Think of a society where every citizen is aware, can act and create an impact in their own community. Isn’t this the type of country we want to live in? – Where we form the government, we work with the government and we sustain as a community.

Call to Action:

This is the reason I call upon you to donate to WTP today. Support my fundraiser to build constitution champions who will reach 2 lakh citizens and empower them with all the tools that they need to create this impact.

PS: I serve as a member of the Trust board at We, The People. So, everything I wrote here is from my heart and no other motive behind it.
